72 year old woman with a 4 day history of RIF pain. Ultrasound shows what was directly under the point of tenderness.
A point of care ultrasound shows a complex structure tender structure in the RIF. This is a possible inflamed appendix, possible inflamed ileum. The AP diameter of the appendix is 1.95 cm. Normal diameter < than 0.6 cm . The appendix does not show peristalsis not moving. There is a small amount of fluid surrounding the structure. Inferior to the appendix is an abscess. On CT she had inflammation of her appendix and her distal ileus and abscess abutting the appendix.
